Ocean surface currents
This diagram shows only ocean surface currents.
The water at the oceans surface is moved primarily by winds that move becasue of the Earth's rotation and the Coriolis effect. Surface ocean currents form large circular patterns called gyres. Near the Earth's Poles the gyres tend to flow in the oppisite direction. Surface currents flow in a regular patttern, but they are not all the same. Some currents are deep and narrow. Other currents are shallow and wide. Currents are affected by the bottom of the ocean. Surface ocean currents can be very large.
Deep water currents
This diagram shows a really good drawing on Deep Water Currents
The Deep Ocean Currents is invisable to us. The Deep Water currents is also known as the Great Conveyor Belt. It is driven by density diffrences of water. Deep Ocean Currents make up 90% of the ocean. These waters move around the ocean basins by density driven forces and gravity. To fish the force is sixteen times stronger than to human.
